We absolutely adored Derrick! He was such a great guide, we shared plenty of laughs. He gives off true Scotland wilderness vibes, and you can tell that the knowledge he has is his personal passion as well as his day job. He was an excellent driver and we had a truly incredible day. I would urge anyone I know to take this tour and to keep their fingers crossed that they get Derrick as their guide!

Derek was an excellent guide. My daughter Sarah and I learned so much and enjoyed the variety of things we were able to stop and see. We got a great overview of the beauty of Scotland! I’d definitely recommend this.

While on the usual Highlands tours you are usually just carted back and forth to Loch Ness, on this tour we were six in a minibus. Our tour guide Derrek from Scotland's Wild stopped at several national parks, we made small hikes and we learned a lot about the landscape, people and history. In total, we were on the road for 12 hours, each of which was worth it.

We had an incredible day with the best tour guide ever, Derek! The trip was planned perfectly, a great mix of different locations, including some walks to look at the stunning landscape with the best view and which was great when sitting for a long time in the car. All places we went to were magical and they became even more special when Derek told us all the background about them. You can really feel that he loves his job and that he has a very warm soul which makes the whole trip unforgettable. Every minute of the 12 hour trip was worth it and we were surprised over and over again how stunning Scotland’s landscape is. It was not a hop on hop off tour but a much more personal adjusted and divers trip with great impressions and a caring guide with tremendous historical knowledge and great humor!

The 12-hour (8am-8pm) Loch Ness & Highlands guided tour from Edinburgh was excellent. There were 7 people on the tour. It was a beautiful day and our Guide, Derek, was exceptional. He kept us informed as we traveled along and he told us the history of some of the areas (e.g., clan feuds). He is also knowledgeable in ecology and geology and has spent time in many of the areas hiking, climbing and learning about the sites. He explained how public lands are owned and managed for preservation and conservation. The trip was excellent, and we hope to come back for another excursion in the future.

  • Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Scottish Highlands Guided Day Tour from Edinburgh

Arrive at 7:45am, departure at 8am from Edinburgh.

You’ve arrived in Edinburgh, explored Scotland’s historic capital city and you now want to get a little bit further afield and go for a short hike in the magnificent Scottish Highlands and look for the Loch Ness monster, am I right?

Yes!? Fantastic, then let’s make that happen! : )

Your expert Scottish tour guide will pick you up, explain all about your wonderful day in the Scottish Highlands and escort you north into the dramatic highland landscape for a day full of breath-taking landscape, history, legend and possibly……… Nessie!

You’ll start by travelling towards Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park where there’s a strong possibility you’ll see some of our cute and cuddly Highland Cows, you may even get the chance to feed one.

Continuing north, there’s the wonderful setting of Rannoch Moor, one of the most remote and wild locations in Scotland and recently featured in the Netflix movie, Outlaw king.

If you enjoyed the remote and rugged landscape of Rannoch Moor, just wait until you lay your eyes on one of the most beautiful areas in the whole of Scotland, Glencoe. You’ll stop and hear how this beautiful landscape which you’ll be forgiven for thinking might be the most peaceful ever, holds a dark and not so peaceful history, significant in shaping Scotland and the world today. You’ll hear about the MacDonald’s of Glencoe, the great clan who once called this place home.

The altering landscape is as diverse as clans’ kilts. You’ll notice the differences in the ever changing landscape, how it goes from gentle green woodland, rugged and remote moorland, dramatic mountainous to long finger shaped Lochs and deep glens filled with mystery and intrigue. Your guide will take you through Ballachulish, Onich, Fort William and onto the banks of Loch Ness itself.

After arriving at Loch Ness, you’ll have the freedom to get out and enjoy a cruise on the search for Nessie. Surely a bucket list item for many visitors to Scotland.

You may or may not have success in the hunt for Nessie, we’ve had varying results : ) though one thing’s for sure, the magic of the Highlands will amaze your every sense.

It’s time to travel east and over towards the Cairngorms National Park where your guide will take you a short hike in the wonderful Scottish Highlands.

Your guide will then take you further south, through Blair Athol, Pitlochry and Dunkeld where you can revel in the beauty of waterfalls and crashing rivers. (Rain dependent)

What a wonderful and enchanting day, you’ll have experienced some of the most eye-catching locations in the Scottish Highlands, visited the world renowned Loch Ness, taken a cruise to find Nessie and walked among the Scottish Wilderness. Now’s the time your guide will take you and bid you farewell and allow you to continue your Great Scottish Adventure
