Planning a Scotland trip from overseas? These are the questions we're asked most.

How many days do I need for a Scotland tour?

Our scheduled tours run from 1 to 7 days. With three days you can reach the Isle of Skye and spend two nights there, with a full day on the island. Five days adds more of the west coast or the islands of Orkney or Lewis & Harris, and the 7-day tour combines Skye, the Outer Hebrides and the Highlands.

How big are the groups?

Every scheduled tour has no more than 16 travellers, with an expert local guide who drives and tells the stories along the way. If you'd rather travel with only your own party, we also run private tours.

Where do the tours start?

Edinburgh tours leave from outside The Jolly Botanist, 256–260 Morrison Street (EH3 8DT). Glasgow tours leave from 17 Killermont Street (G2 3NX). Inverness tours leave from outside Starbucks at Rose Street Car Park (IV1 1NQ). Some multi-day tours from Glasgow finish in Edinburgh, and each tour page shows where it ends.

Is accommodation included on multi-day tours?

No. Tour prices cover your guide and transport, so you can choose how to stay. We can book B&B or hotel rooms with trusted partners near the group's overnight stops once your tour is confirmed (breakfast is normally included), or you can book your own within about 3 km of the group's location.

What is included in the tour price?

Your expert guide, transport in a comfortable, air-conditioned touring vehicle, and guided short walks and sightseeing stops. Ferry crossings are included on the Orkney, Outer Hebrides and 7-day tours. Meals, accommodation and entry to paid attractions such as castles are not included.

How do I pay, and what is the cancellation policy?

Prices are per person in British pounds (GBP). Multi-day tours need a 25% deposit, with the balance taken 15 days before departure; cancel 16 or more days before and you receive 90% of the tour cost back. Day tours need a 50% deposit, with the balance taken 8 days before; cancel 8 or more days before for a full refund, or 4–7 days before for 50%. See the full terms and conditions.

How much walking is involved, and is there a minimum age?

Short walks and time outside the vehicle are built into every day, usually up to about an hour on paths that can be rough or uneven. Walks are optional. Most scheduled tours welcome travellers aged 12 and over, and the Puffin and Alnwick day tours welcome children from age 7. For younger children, ask us about a private tour.

How much luggage can I bring on a multi-day tour?

One suitcase or bag up to 15 kg (33 lb), about 56 × 43 × 25 cm, plus one small personal bag. If you have more, see our luggage storage information.
