Touring at Christmas

Why tour Scotland between Christmas and New Year

Most of our tours keep running between Christmas and New Year. If you're spending the holidays in Edinburgh or Glasgow, you can still get out to the Highlands for a day or a few.

Your guide plans the day around the daylight, gets out of the van with you at every stop and tells the stories behind the places you see. We never take more than 16 travellers on our scheduled tours, so there's always time for your questions.

If you've got a few days free, our 3-day and 5-day Isle of Skye tours are the best way to spend them. Only got a day? Glencoe, Loch Ness, Stirling and St Andrews all run from 27 December, with a break over Hogmanay.

7 hoursDaylight

In late December the sun rises around 8:45am and sets around 3:45pm in Edinburgh. Your guide plans the stops around it.

24–26 DecNo tours

31 Dec–2 JanHogmanay

Our day tours take a break over Hogmanay. Our 5-day Skye tours still leave on 31 December and 2 January.

Good to know

Christmas & New Year tour questions

Do you run tours on Christmas Day?

No. We don't run tours on 24, 25 or 26 December. Tours start again on 27 December and run right through to 7 January.

Can I go on a tour over Hogmanay or New Year's Day?

Yes, on our 5-day Isle of Skye tours. They leave from Edinburgh and Glasgow on 31 December and 2 January. Our day tours take a break from 31 December to 2 January.

Do tours cost more over the holidays?

Yes, on some dates. Tours from 27 to 30 December cost more than the same tours in January. The price you see on this page is live for your dates and group, and it's checked again before you pay.

Will a multi-day tour be back by 7 January?

Not always. This page shows every tour that leaves between 27 December and 7 January, so a Skye tour leaving on 6 January gets back on 8 January. Tick "Only show tours that finish by 7 January" to hide those.

What's the weather like at the end of December?

Cold and changeable. Expect wind and rain, frost on clear days and sometimes snow in the Highlands. Wrap up warm and bring a waterproof jacket and boots with good grip. Your guide keeps an eye on the roads and the forecast all day.

Can children come on a festive tour?

Yes, from age 12. If you're travelling with younger children, a private tour can be planned around your family.
