Now, I'd like to say we had a good experience but that wouldn't be true: we actually had the most wonderful and powerful example of what 'guiding' means. John's been much more than a guide: 1) he's an expert of all of Scotland's history, tales, wildlife and traditions 2) he surely knows how to keep an audience thrilled even if in the middle of nowhere 3) he sincerely loves what he does and you can vividly read it through his eyes Being on his bus has been a privilege, having my girlfriend and I also decided to spend our anniversary with him and his team (Scotland's Wild) So a big thumbs up for his professionalism and great attitude! P.S. We also loved the music he put on during the travels (typical Scottish music or written by Scottish songwriters and singers) this man really loves his land and you defintely can feel it! We've booked two tours from Glasgow, "Glencoe and Highlands Bus and Walking Tour" and "Standing Stones, Castles & Highlands Tour" and we've had the most amazing experience! Not only they showed us how beautiful Scotland is, but they also gave us a beautiful and enjoyable history lesson. We've stopped multiple times and enjoyed several really nice walks. We will for sure book again with them when we go back to Scotland

You’ll start your wonderful Standing Stones, Stone Circles, Inveraray and Kilchurn Castles and Scottish Highlands Day tour with a lovely drive out of Glasgow over the River Clyde. Glasgow was founded on the banks of this river and as you drive over, you’ll be able to see why. You’ll get some wonderful views looking out over the river and out west towards the Clyde Estuary, where the fresh water and saltwater meet. On a clear day, you may even be able to see where the Vikings moored their longboats as they came into the area to pillage and plunder over 1300 years ago. In the same direction, there’s impressive views of Dumbarton Castle. This historic location has links to William Wallace, King Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots, with the latter two, thought to have been imprisoned in the Castle dungeons.

You’ll reach Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and all the glory that comes along with it. The landscape will alter between lowland to Highlands and you’ll get some really scenic views looking out over Loch Lomond and the Highland fault line where the land crashed together over 400 million years ago.

From Scotland’s first National Park you explore west towards Argyll for a visit to Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Clan Campbell. There’s been a castle on the banks of Loch Fyne since the 1400’s with this, the “new” Castle being started in 1746. During your visit you’ll have the chance to find out all about the part the Campbells played during the wars of independence. You’ll be able to see guns used against the Jacobite soldiers along with many swords and other traditional Scottish items. You’ll even get the chance to find out how the Queen Victoria was a part of the family and how the Campbells played their part in shaping Canada.

After your first historic Castle visit, now’s the time to travel along the shores of Loch Fyne, the longest saltwater Loch in Scotland. This is where you should keep your eyes firmly on the water as there’s a good chance you may see some Seals and other marine wildlife. From the banks of Loch Fyne, you’ll eventually reach the historic Kilmartin Glen, here there’s over 350 ancient monuments spread across the whole valley, making this one of the most historically important locations in the whole of Scotland. We’ll stop and get you out to explore a large finding of Cup and Ring marks, which are essentially rock carvings dating from thousands of years back.

Now it’s time for the Outlander fans to have their fun and pretend they’re Claire and Jamie discovering each other at some ancient standing stones. This very impressive collection of historical standing stones, stone circles and burial cairns is believed to be over 5000 years old and is one of the finest displays anywhere in Scotland.

After living out the Outlander fantasy, you’ll travel along the shores of the beautiful Loch Awe towards Kilchurn Castle. Once we reach here, there’s the chance to get you out for a walk to experience Kilchurn in all it’s ruined glory. The abandoned 15th century Castle at the head of the Loch was once home to the Campbell’s of Glenorchy, then to the government soldiers during the Jacobite uprising and finally came to a end after being hit by lightning in 1760.

You’ll leave Kilchurn and make your way to further into the Highlands towards the mountainous Trossachs region before making your way south along the banks of Loch Lomond and stopping off to enjoy some of the most magnificent Highland scenery possible.

This Day Tour of Standing Stones, Castles and the Scottish Highlands may be completed in reverse.

After the tour departs Glasgow, we may also pick up clients in Balloch and drop them back in Balloch before the tour ends in Glasgow.
