Our one-day 7.5 mile (11.1km) hike provides the perfect opportunity for you to explore a section of this incredible walking trail.
Arrive at 8:15am, departure at 8:30am from Edinburgh.
Our journey begins in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city, before heading to the picturesque village of Drymen, our starting point.
Drymen boasts one of the country's oldest pubs, offering fascinating insights into the village's history.
Beginning from the village's car park, our trail winds through Garabhan Forest, where you'll uncover the intriguing story behind the construction of the road, a tale intertwined with the turbulent times of The Jacobite Uprisings.
The next stage opens up to the vast moorland, leading us to our next destination, Conic Hill.
This ancient geological feature provides panoramic views of Loch Lomond, Britain's largest inland lake.
Along the way, your guide will share captivating facts about Loch Lomond, ranging from its maximum depth to the peculiar wildlife residing on one of its islands— with creatures not commonly associated with Scotland.
Upon reaching the summit of Conic Hill and capturing the moment with memorable photographs, we descend to the charming village of Balmaha for a well-deserved lunch break.
Enjoying delightful dishes at the Oak Tree Inn, we then wait for the bus to take us back to our starting destination.
A brief 10-minute journey and a short walk bring us back to the car park, where our adventure concludes.
We then return to our initial meeting point in Edinburgh, having explored a captivating slice of the West Highland Way.
Arrive back in Edinburgh at around 5pm.

Is the One Day West Highland Way Hiking from Edinburgh Tour for me?
Before booking on to our tour, please remember that this is an Active Sightseeing tour and might not be for everyone. We will be going hiking most of the day and will have an approx. 45-minute uphill section to complete. It’s also varied terrain and the ground can be uneven and slippery. Before booking, please ask yourself, Can I and everyone in my group comfortably walk for a few hours?
What should I bring on the Day Tour?
As the weather can be unpredictable at times in Scotland, for your day tour we recommend you bring light waterproof clothing and sturdy hiking boots or shoes. You may also want to bring midge repellent as during certain times of year (primarily April - September) the midges may irritate you. If you’re lucky enough to get a nice sunny day, then some sun cream would be great. If it’s during the colder months, then some warm clothing, gloves and a hat may also be useful.

We recommend not bringing a car as it can be difficult to get parking in Edinburgh. There are private parking facilities in Edinburgh that fill up quickly and there is some on street parking, all have a charge. Best way to get around Edinburgh is on foot or public transport.

When leaving Edinburgh on your One-Day West Highland Way Hiking group tour we get you’ll be out of the vehicle for most of the tour. We will be walking a section of the West Highland Way in the Highlands of Scotland and then also going for a delicious lunch afterwards.
Do you have any age restrictions?
For our scheduled day tours, including the 1 Day West Highland Way Hiking tour leaving from Edinburgh, we have a minimum age limit of 12 years old. If you have children under 12 who you’d like to take on the West Highland Way Day Tour, we recommend getting in touch info@scotlandswild.com and asking about a fully private tour for you and your group.
Should I bring Lunch on my 1 Day West Highland Way Hike departing Edinburgh?
There will be no need to bring any lunch as you’ll be stopping off for some delicious lunch near Loch Lomond in the stunning village of Balmaha. If you’d prefer to bring your own lunch and not eat at the restaurant after the hike, then this is completely fine. You will need to take some snacks and water with you during your West Highland Way hike to keep your energy levels up.
Can I take luggage with me during the 1 Day hiking Tour?
On your One-Day West Highland Way Hiking group tour leaving from Edinburgh, there is space for everyone to have a rucksack or handbag so you can carry your essentials. If you have a suitcase or any form of larger luggage, then do get in touch before booking to find out if we still have space to store it during your 1-day hiking tour.
Will there be plenty of bathroom breaks?
During your 1 Day Guided Hiking trip of the West Highland Way coming from Edinburgh, you’ll be hiking in the remote wilderness of the Scottish Highlands, meaning there won’t be many opportunities for restroom breaks. There will be a bathroom facility at the beginning and end of your West Highland Way Hike but no official facilities during the West Highland Way hike itself. Your West Highland Way hiking Guide will be carrying a trowel and biodegradable toilet paper for clients to use during the hike.
Should I tip my Scotland Tour Guide/Driver?
If you believe your Scotland Tour Guide/Driver provided you with a great touring experience in Scotland, then I know they will always appreciate a wee bonus, though it is completely up to you on how much you tip or if you’d like to provide one.
What’s your Day Tour Cancellation Policy?
Any cancellation for our Edinburgh 1 Day West Highland Way Hiking Tour, 8 or more days before the tour start day, you will be issued a full refund. Cancelling between 4 and 7 days before the tour start date you will be issued a 50% refund and cancelling within 3 days of the tour, full payment is taken.

Do I have Travel Insurance Provided on my Edinburgh 1 Day West Highland Way Hiking Tour?
We don’t provide travel insurance for any Tours in Scotland, though we highly recommend taking out appropriate travel insurance for any vacation to Scotland.
