Exploring Scotland with Experience Scotland’s Wild

Such a great experience! John has been showing us around in the Glencoe area. We went for a 2-day hike experience. He most definitely knows his stuff! He told us all about the devils staircase on the West Highland Way, devils pub, the Sticky Lord of Glencoe and showed us the Hidden Valley. You could not wish for a better, nicer and more easy going guy then John. Would definitely recommend him. Thanks for everything John, hope you can show us the rest of Scotland as well.

Fantastic 2 Days Hiking in the Scottish Highlands

We spent two days hiking in the Scottish Highlands with a group of eight friends. Guide John is simply a great guy, easy to connect to, passionate and knowledgeable on Scotland’s history and wildlife - we even spotted a wild Haggis hiding between the rocks! Also, everything was organized extremely well, we did not have to worry about anything - we could simply have fun and enjoy the stunning views. When we get back to Scotland, we will definitely ask John to guide us again.

John, Derek, and Alistair were the ideal hosts for our week-long Speyside hiking and distillery-hopping adventure. They worked so well together to please and pamper our group of 14 with personal attention and care. Witty, colorful, knowledgeable, and full of stories, they teamed to make our daily dose of hiking, whisky sampling, and dining a true masterpiece. I cherish the memories they skillfully created for all of us. Slangevar to Experience Scotland's Wild!

    Hiking in the Scottish Highlands

Experience Scotland’s Wild was recommended to me by the Visit Scotland Information Centre and I thank them warmly. I called on there services as part of a mini-stay to discover Scotland that I organized for my hiking club.
John accompanied us (20 people) during a day with picnic to climb Ben Lomond in the Scottish Highlands. The whole group was completely enthusiastic about John's performance. He is a very friendly person, full of charm (accent + kilt among others :-)), attention and humor! He has the passion for his job, a communicative joie de vivre, it is a pleasure to have him as a guide. He has been very sure on all fronts.

  • The West Highland Way is probably one of the most famous multi-day hikes in Scotland. People from all over the world come to complete either small sections of the walk or the entire 96 miles! And it’s not hard to see why!

Whether you want to complete the whole route or are just in it for the views, this one-day hike is perfect to get a taste of what the West Highland Way has to offer.

You’ll be departing from Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city and heading straight for the beautiful village of Drymen, which is our starting location for this hike.

Home to one of the oldest pubs in the country, you’ll learn some interesting facts about the village. From the car park, we begin our hike through Garabhan Forest.

Whilst walking through this enchanted forest, the fascinating tale of why the road was constructed will leave you wondering what life was really like during one of the bloodiest periods in Scottish history, The Jacobite Uprisings.

With the forest now behind us, the open moorland now stretches out to our next destination, Conci Hill. Part of an ancient fault line, Conic hill offers spectacular views looking across Loch Lomond, the largest inland lake in Britain.

Your guide will feed you intriguing facts about Loch Lomond, from its maximum depth to the strange animals inhabiting one of the islands. Animals you wouldn’t normally associate with Scotland.

After some photographs of your achievements in conquering this beautiful hill, we’ll descend down to the stunning village of Balmaha for a well-deserved lunch.

Now that we’ve stuffed our faces in the delicious food from the Oak Tree Inn, it’s time to wait for the bus back to our starting location. The bus takes 10 minutes to reach our stop and a very short walk to the car park sees us returned to the van.

From here we’ll make our way back to the day’s pick-up location, Glasgow.
