My friend and I took the 1-day Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park Tour from Balloch on September 15th and had a wonderful time. I cannot say enough good things about John. One never knows how spending the day with a "stranger" will go, but it felt more like spending the day with a comfortable friend showing us his favorite places. John was personable, easy-going, and full of knowledge about the area and some of the stories that go along with it. The day was a great combination of driving and hiking up to see wonderful views. I highly recommend Scotland's Wild, and in fact I so enjoyed the day that my dream is now to return to Scotland some day with my family and spend a week touring the country with a trip organized by John of Scotland's Wild.

My husband and I signed up for the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Tour departing from Glasgow. Hiking around the park and loch were the primary reasons - get out of the city into nature with fresh air and greenery, with the promise of a hairy coos stop as a secondary reason. The tour did not disappoint. We had a wonderful and energetic tour guide named Derick and a really nice small group size of 6 in the tour van. It made the group much more mobile and able to cover more ground and spend more time in places than with a large group. We had a good mix of drive time in the van (fairly minimal) and hiking/break times along the route. I'd highly recommend this tour to others. I would also recommend a sturdy pair of shoes (hiking boots best but good traction sneakers should do ok) as this is an active tour on various types of terrain.

  • Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park Guided Tour Departing Glasgow

On your day tour, you’ll be enjoying many of the magnificent locations which help make Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park. You’ll start your day in Glasgow before travelling west over the River Clyde where you’ll get views out towards the Clyde Estuary. This is where the fresh water and saltwater meet and the location where the Vikings moored their boats over 1300 years ago so they could ransack the area and take valuables and slaves back to their homelands. On a clear day, you’ll also get the chance to see Dumbarton Castle, a site with connections to William Wallace, King Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. It’s believed both King Robert and Queen Mary were both held captive here.

Not long after entering the National Park, you’ll stop on the eastern banks of Loch Lomond. Here you’ll take in a lovely short hike along the water’s edge towards a beautiful viewpoint where you’ll get the most magnificent panoramic views of the southern section of Loch Lomond. From here you’ll learn about many of the Islands, be able to capture great images and see and hear about how the Highlands and Lowlands were formed.

After a nice walk along the banks of Loch Lomond, you’ll then move on to a quaint wee town within the National Park to hear why they claim to be the Fairy Capital of the United Kingdom. As you continue deeper into the National Park, you may notice how the dramatic landscape is constantly changing and evolving. During your lunch stop in the dramatic Scottish Highlands, you’ll also have the opportunity to feed our famous hairy Highland Cows.

The Trossachs area of the National Park is home to so much spectacular scenery such as deep glens, long finger like Lochs, Caledonian Pine forest and cascading waterfalls. After your lunch, you’ll then enjoy another short hike in the Trossachs, this time following in the footsteps of Rob Roy MacGregor, one of Scotland’s most infamous or famous sons, depending on what you believe.

You’ve had another walk within Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park, so you deserve a rest and what better way, than to enjoy a scenic drive through Glen Dochart as you take in the mountainous landscape while keeping an eye out for some of Scotland’s rich variety of wildlife, such as our largest land animal, the Red Deer, the ever-endangered Red Squirrel or Golden Eagles which fly high above.

For the final part of the day before leaving the National Park to travel towards Glasgow, you’ll stop at the historic village of Luss where you’ll get some of the most beautiful views possible of the stunning Loch Lomond and hear how it has a deep connection with the Vikings. After this It’s then time to say goodbye to the magnificent land which is Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park

This Loch Lomond & the Trossachs Day Tour may be explored in reverse.

After the tour departs Glasgow, we may also pick up clients in Balloch and drop them back in Balloch before the tour ends in Glasgow.
