  • Highlights - Glasgow - Isle of Mull & Iona Day 1
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
    Glencoe
    Morven Penisula
    Boat to Isle of Mull
    Tobermory

    Arrive 8:15am, pick-up at 8:30 in Glasgow.

A prompt departure from Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, we begin our travels north. Our first stop will be in Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.

We head up to the outstanding views overlooking the stunning village of Luss and Loch Lomond. Learn about the ancient fault line that runs through the loch and separates the Highlands of Scotland & the Lowlands of Scotland.

Departing this glorious location, we continue north into the heart of the Highlands, stopping by Rannoch Moor and the majestic Glencoe. This otherworldly landscape is one of the last remaining wildernesses in Scotland, with its vast open moorland and towering mountains.

The Three Sisters of Glencoe will be our last stop in this phenomenal glen before we head for our first ferry of the day. At Corran, we cross Loch Linnhe and travel down to the Morven Penisula where an old township is waiting for us to explore.

Hear about how villages throughout the Highlands and Isles of Scotland were forced off the land to make space for more livestock belonging to the Landlord.

Now we depart for our second ferry of the day. This time, crossing the Sound of Mull onto the Isle of Mull. From here we’ll head for our accommodation and settle in for the evening.

  • Highlights of Isle of Iona Day 2
    Duart Castle
    Ferry to Isle of Iona
    Iona Abbey & Nunnery
    MacLean’s Cross

Our day will begin by heading for the southern half of the island at Duart Castle. Here we’ll explore the castle and learn about Clan MacLean & their ancestral seat. Their clan chief still owns the castle today.

Now it’s time to travel towards the southwestern part of Mull, where the ferry from Fionnphort will take us across to what is considered to be the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland, the Isle of Iona.

Disembarking the ferry, we’ll be walking through the small village on Iona to the world-famous, Iona Abbey.

Being the very epicentre of Christianity in Scotland, explore where St Columba set up his monastery and where pilgrims still venture today to witness the Shrine of St Columba.

Heading back to the ferry to cross over to Mull, we make our back to our accommodation, but first, we’ll stop by Aros Castle. This beautiful walk takes us to the castle ruins which have superb views across the Sound of Mull.

Learn about how the caste changed hands multiple times through its long history, all because clan chiefs supported the “wrong” side.

Once we arrive back at the vehicle, we venture back to our accommodation and relax for the rest of the evening.

  • Highlights - Isle of Mull - Day 3
    Kilmore Standing Stones
    Calgary Beach & Clearance Village
    Eas Fors Waterfalls
    Stunning Scenic Coastal Drive
    Tobermory Distillery

Our day will begin with exploring the northern part of the isle and a lovely stroll to Kilmore Standing Stones. These mysterious stones still have an unclear purpose, as do many standing stones around Scotland.

We head further west towards the little village of Calgary, where a coastal hike will take us to an old Highland Clearance village. Learn about how through the late 18th and 19th centuries, Landlords moved hundreds of folk from their lands to make room for more sheep.

We’ll enjoy the glorious drive around the northwestern part of Mull, overlooking the beautiful scenic sea views across to the Treshnish Isle and the Ulva Isle.

Stopping at a stunning little spot to admire the views and visit a waterfall whose name has three different languages in it, Eas Fors Waterfalls.

Now we finish off our day in the best way possible, a whisky tasting at Tobermory Distillery. Here you’ll sample some of the finest local whisky from the Isle of Mull.

Distillery tour completed, we can now retire to our accommodation and relax for the rest of the evening.

  • Highlights - Isle of Mull - Edinburgh Day 3
    Boat to Oban
    Kilmartin Glen
    Inveraray Castle
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park

It’s an early departure off the island of Mull to Oban from Craignure. Arriving at Oban, we now start our journey south through the awe-inspiring landscapes of the West of Scotland and down into a place of incredible ancient history, Kilmartin Glen.

Exploring Nether Largie Standing Stones & Templewood Stone Circles, these ancient ruins will ignite your imagination, pondering on who once lived in this stunning glen and what was the significance of this location.

Now we’re off to a place where the Kings of an ancient kingdom once called home, Dunadd Fort. This unimaginable kingdom stemmed from Ireland and controlled most of the west coast of Scotland.

Learn about its interesting past and how this fort was popular for European trade and the coronation stone that sits at the top of the hill, which still has the footprint of a giant imprinted on the stone.

Continuing our ancient theme, our hike will be through some forest to a superb viewpoint and a place that has what is one of the largest collections of prehistoric rock art in Scotland.

Understanding what these symbols mean is still obscure to us, we can only speculate on their meaning. This reignites that curiosity as to who our ancestors were and what significance the area held to them.

Now we’ve seen these incredible ancient monuments, its now time to head for one of the most spectacular castles in the West of Scotland, Inveraray Castle.

Still home to the Dukes of Argyll, and the Clan Chiefs of Clan Campbell, this outstanding castle seems like something straight of a fairytale, with its gothic influence and huge turrets.

Once we’ve explored the castle, we continue our journey south towards Glasgow. Along the way, we stop by a breathtaking viewpoint in Glencroe.

Looking down this V-shaped valley, we’re surrounded by mountains, that are known locally as the Arrochar Alps. The viewpoint is called the Rest & Be Thankful, you can see the old military road that was constructed during the last Jacobite Uprising.

Now it’s time to travel to the city of Edinburgh, where we’ll say our final goodbyes of the tour.

    Back to Edinburgh around 7-8pm.

Fabulous bucket list 10 day private tour of Scotland for two people - John is a wonderful caring guide!

    ★★★★★

We happily managed to book Experience Scotland’s Wild for a 10 day private tour of Scotland. It would be my 4th trip to Scotland and my partner's first time. John asked me what would be my dream trip, and I threw a huge list at him, and amazingly Scotland’s Wild was able to plan an itinerary that included almost all of the list! They made all the hotel, b&b, and restaurant reservations. We travelled from Edinburgh to Skye, Mull, Iona, Lewis and Harris, and Orkney. Stayed at some beautiful B&B's/hotels and 1 night in a luxury castle. Wonderful scenery, stone circles, and animals (deer, birds, sheep, seals, horses and Shetland ponies, hairy cows, hairy pigs in Orkney). LOVED the Callanish Standing Stones. Since we are Harry Potter fans he booked us a trip on the "Hogwarts Express" train. He was very informative and took good care of my partner who is limited in physical capability. The bus is very clean and comfortable. He is a very caring guide who does his best to make your trip the best it can be! We give John and Experience Scotland’s Wild the highest recommendation possible! Looking forward to our next trip back to Scotland!

    Perfect Trip to Scotland

    ★★★★★

It was a pleasure working with Scotland's Wild Tours. My wife typically plans our trips and she had a clear idea of what she wanted to do while in Scotland. Through other reviews and recommendations she contacted Experience Scotland's Wild Tours. ESWT was able to accommodate all of my wife's preferences and make recommendations for minor tweaks / add-ons. We left for Scotland feeling confident that we were in good hands.

Our guide Derek was great. Professional, personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. Derek took all the work and worry out of the equation so that my wife and I could relax and enjoy our vacation.
